Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law. 

These words from the Old Testament encourage us to search the word of God for knowledge, so we may live a holy life onto our God. In fact it was accounted for credit to the Bereans for doing such things. "Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true." Acts 17:11
